Issues with Fast Fashion - Fashion Nova

Fashion Nova, coined by Richard Saghian back in 2006, was intended to be a brick-and-mortar-store. In 2013 Instagram was his main platform and he used his best selling items and racked up to 60,000 followers. After they began to rise to fame, celebrities like Cardi B and Kylie Jenner began brand deals with Fashion Nova. However, as things went uphill for some time they surely went downhill.

There have been a lot of issues that have arose with Fashion Nova. These issuers are sizing, environmental, selling counterfeit goods, poor labor conditions. A Lot of the time, users will get items and then clothing ends up being too small, or too large, not being the right size that they promised in the description. A concerning fact is that they don't publish any information about their environmental policies. Interestingly enough they received a score of ‘Very poor’ on the ‘Fashion Transparency Index. This is because none of its supply chain has been certified by labor standards. This is important because it provides assurance that worker health, wages, and safety is being carried out.

Other evidence shows that there has been no payment of ‘living’ wage. In addition, it was claimed by some workers in Los Angeles workers were extremely underpaid. Back in 2020 when Covid hit they also did not disclose policies that could have protected workers and suppliers. This is disheartening knowing the impacts of Covid-19. Another issue is that they release SO many items in such large quantities at low prices, and this is not eco-friendly. Most items, like other brands, end up in landfills because these items quickly go out of style. Furthermore, on the Better Business Bureau they are rated B- which isn't too bad, however they are not accredited due to requirements not being met. They have racked up 2,379 complaints in the last 12 months which is not good, at all. Some issues and reviews left were “Horrible company” and “They do not respond to emails”.

Personal Experience/opinion:

Personally, after ordering off of fast fashion websites, I have had some good and bad experiences but after research I have decided to not order anymore. I think brands like these need to be cut off and shut down. Workers need to be respected more along with the environment. After looking at Fashion Nova I have decided to rank them myself with a ranking of F! We have to be aware of brands that don't have a good reputation because things can only get worse once the exposure of it gets worse. I have only ordered off fashion Nova once, and that was for a pair of boots for $60 that I wore one time, what a waste of money! Not to mention they were very uncomfortable!
